Good news for those with under-bitten fists. Neuromancer is coming, courtesy of the director that brought you the flimsy Fast/Furious folly, Torque.
Neuromancer is achingly sharp, stylised, ambiguous and largely unfilmable. Or according to the producer, “a good sci-fi adventure … with a sort of love interest as well”. I seriously hope the project falls through and all involved parties have unlikely gardening accidents.
Who knows though, maybe it will surpass the futuristic vision of The Lawnmower Man. Hopefully it will borrow more from the source material anyway (did you ever read the Stephen King short story? Not a computer in it…).

The Lawnmower Man short story was just a few pages about a gardener that was like a goat-legged devil with grass instead of fur, right? It has been a while since I put those words inside my brain.
Having never read Neuromancer, I have no emotional investment in it whatsoever, but I do know it is supposed to be one of, like, the core cyberpunk texts or somesuch, eh? Probably best not to give it to the dude what made Torque, no.
I would totally love to have a friend called ‘Torque’. I almost had a friend called ‘Turbine’, but the nickname never caught on.

They have this stupid thing called an F1 event at work. When some muppet (why is it always equities) decides that his problem is big enough to warrant immediate attention from every man and his dog, EVERY phone in the department will ring at the same time, until one person from each team picks up. The noise is eery. Lawnmower man is alive.

I believe Pan himself was involved in some capacity. Taking time out from the labyrinth an that.
I have considerable emotional investment in Neuromancer. I am learning that the value can go down as well as up.
Torque and Turbine are great friend nicknames, but probably not together in a group. “Hi, this is Dave… Susan… Turbine and Torque…”

I sort of picture Torque and Turbine as two guys dressed in leather waistcoats (nothing on underneath, obviously) and wraparound shades, each one wearing a single leather glove, but on different hands. They are always chewing gum.
That’s just Bros, really, isn’t it?

Wow there’s a real 80s thing happening there. I was going to suggest London Boys – did you know they were dead?

That’s the most fabulously bleak piece of sad trivia I have heard since I found out the drummer from Mika Bomb had lost his legs.
Those poor old London Boys.
