Back home at last to temperate climes after the furnaces of Tokyo and New York. Pile of post inside the door. Messages on the phone. Dirty. T-shirt suntan. 2 hours sleep, so afternoon nap imminent.
As you'll have noted from my appalling TF silence, the old 'posting on the move' thing didn't work out too well this time. Taking an hour out of the busy schedule to sit in internet cafes wasn't really feasible. Saying that, during my time in Nippon I obsessively made notes on absolutely everything (as Danieru will testify) in a now-precious moleskine notepad. So a series of write-ups should follow, along with a flickring of the 1GB of photos and video I amassed.
A quick calculation shows that by this Monday, between Edinburgh – London – Tokyo – New York – Gothenberg, I'll have covered 24,450 miles in 5 weeks. That's the full circumference of the earth, girth fans.

Looking forward to hearing all about it.
Did you visit all the places you listed or did you just fly over some of them?

molskine/everything > Did you keep it in your shoulder bag next to your Galouises and JP Sartre paperback? Ok, I have several. Very handy and so compact, pocket fans! I like the free stamps. What’s your reward if found? I’ve faithfully promised three chickens, a pig and two marbles..
Nice to hear from your ass. Look forward to comparing notes on dirty t shirt tans soon.

Yep, all actually drunk in. You can add Braemar in there as well for completeness, and mark Gothenberg as To Do as it doesn’t happen until Friday.
> moleskine
They are nice objects. Never thought I’d get to put it to good use. Invaluable once you get going. Don’t think my reward is filled in, will rectify.

Did you experience the fabled toilets in Tokyo that have heated seats and talk to you? What were the insects like in the places you visited? Insects put me off traveling anywhere at all, even to the kitchen.

I’m a moleskine obsessive too, though I must have the ones with square paper not lined or plain (in case anyone wants to buy me one, I am running out of space in my small and medium sized). I bet mine are full of more intellectual stuff than yours ; )
Did you see any art? Must know everything when you have time please. And photies.

An important point: I hate mosquitos and cock-a-roaches. Essentially I didn’t see anything unpleasant (with one exception*), despite (perhaps because of?) it being rainy season.
However all windows have mosquito mesh in them. There must be A Reason For This.
The other stuff will be in the upcoming posts : )
* walking up what was possibly the coolest alley on the planet (populated by local teens shopping for odd gear and munching ice cream crepes – wish I knew the name of the place) everyone was freaked out by a terrifying HORNET the size of a sparrow.
Avoid. Hornets.

Takeshita Dori in Harajuku. Note that i have not encountered the Mummy or Daddy hornet yet.

ok, apart from the Galouises (because they only appear popular with truck drivers these days) i am so so tempted… maybe a hipflask of cognac instead. And now I have 4 things to buy in SF.
