Cheers. The final breakdown had me down as 2 marks away from a 1st, but I couldn’t care less. So pleased! Gutted about one of my mates though. He got caught for plaigerism and failed his honours. Even has to take his work down from the degree show, which is maybe the roughest thing i’ve ever heard. Thing is, i’m sure he never willingly meant to. I think maybe his referencing was just a bit special. Fucking crushed for him. Don’t know what to say. Awful!
Can you plagiarise with art? I mean how can they prove that? Isn’t all art a regurgitation of what went before? Or is design a bit different? Poor guy.
I think he just wrote it wrongly. Obviously every dissertation has to have discursive content for and against, from a variety of different sources. The only way you can plagiarise (ahhh, you spell it like thaaat..) is if you’re not properly referencing your material, or passing it off as your own. I honestly think that he was doing it in good faith, just not entirely correctly. Went to see him today and gave him hugs. Bet you ten years down the line, he’s the one with the ace job at saatchi and the model girlfriend. It’s art school. The grade aint worth the paper it be writed on.
Oops totally forgot, it’s this weekend that some friends are coming over from Canada so I have to be in Edinburgh to greet them on Fri. I’ll definitely be in to see the show next week then.
Well done on the 2:1! That’s horrible about your friend and the plagiarism. Should his tutor not have pointed out where he was going wrong if he was crediting his references incorrectly or something? Oh man. I can’t imagine what it must be like to have to go through that. Oh man.
I am going into ECA to piss off the toiling students and use the facilities to make an animation showreel to apply for The Most Awesome Job Ever. I also just received a wee cheque for animation work I did ages ago for CineWorks.
I have my fingers all kinds of crossed, possibly throwing some unwanted gang signs as I do so. Me want awesome job.
No saturday apologies needed. I was hideously wrong for days.
Does anyone know when the ECA degree show is? I’m out of the loop. I like to go and sneer and say “hmmm…it’s like Muse…trying to be Radiohead…” then I scamper away, and fight the jealousy with beer and ranting.
It was really weird. I totally hadn’t anticipated what it would feel like to have your work on show to so many people. Very strange. I didn’t like it at all. The numbers were too high to explain stuff and so, it was a night for painful small talk. Everybody either knows everyone else directly, or has a mate whose slept with them, so the conversation was tedious, repetative, and overly complimentary. I’ve felt more comfortable.
The degree show party was at the union, so that’s where we ended up. Music was good, numbers were acceptable, license was only til 2.30. Got v. drunk, danced like a spastic, smiled lots and felt better. Things had better start getting more fun now, or I want my money back.
a wee cheque for animation work > I just got one for £175 from my faculty. I won the crighton prize for, I actually have no idea whatsoever. Decent! Should pay for a couple of drinkies on olidaay..
Awesomest Job is doing some sort of animation up north for 10 weeks with a bunch of other people, in log cabins.
Too much other information will jinx me up.
Cheques are great. If I don’t get this job, I shall be using my cheque to fund an Edinburgh flat for a month, scrabbling for any job to keep up with the rent. The future has potential for awesomeness, even if I do just become a cleaner. People think people who clean floors and toilets are rugged and sexy, right? RIGHT?!!? Sigh.
Well done on the Crighton prize. All I got from college was my film used as an example of what can happen when a promising student goes wrong and panics and drinks for a year instead of working, working, working. True story. Poor old tutors. I broke their hearts. I really should have done sculpture. I did uncommonly well at that in first year, even if they did put my sculpture in the first year show the wrong way up. It was named ‘Gavin’.
I remember feeling amazing at the degree show, just the knowledge that it was all out of the way and it didn’t matter any more. I also remember wearing a badge saying ‘Lousy Art Fuck’ instead of a name tag, and an old man leaping on me and saying he was the lousy art fuck, and that I had the same shirt that he had 10 years ago. He also had my first name. I like meeting my future selves.
I was going to say ‘man, fourth year ruled!’, but if I’m honest, I was a broken, broken man back then, gibbering away in a hideous panic. Much has changed etc blah blah sod off Milne

Is it changing Nick Park’s catheter for him during the long shifts. LOL seriously though, good luck and remember to “Go for it”!*

I went to see the Degree Show this week. Your stuff was cool. How far have you taken the designer baby stuff? Could set up the website for our amusement.
Cheers honey, I actually got a bit of a shoeing from a passing deranged microbiologist, who said I should have clearly stated that the project was entirely hypothetical. He stamped his feet and everything!
I don’t think I could have been any more derisive towards him if I possibly tried. It was ace. Heckle-o-rama!
But to answer your question, no. I didn’t do any of the code stuff behind the site. It was just raw graphics. Glad you liked it. Begining to develop chip on shoulder about 2:1 status. I know, i’m an anal little dickhead. It’s not my fault.
It’s sadly true. Another ill-planned attempt at some sort of ‘happiness’.
Slightly on topic, I hear the degree shows are all on the noo, and that. I want to see a sculpture of a bear fighting a horse. I have heard that such a thing exists.

Ah it was the dissertation. You have to be careful to footnote everything that wasn’t your own idea.
Jilly, what time is the degree show opening on Fri?

It’s 6.30, I thinks. Alcohol factor will be high, come help consume, honey.

These are exemplary things, congrats old man.
And possibly apologies for my exceptional state on Saturday night, it was fun on an epic and damaging scale.

It’s actually just a job following Nick Park around, fawning over his every mediocre utterance.
If only!
I love Ness’ mom.
Really.
It is real love.
I bet she scrubs up real nice. She’s too good for her absent husband.
