Out today to talk to eager salesmen in immaculate, wood-effect hi-fi shops and tempt them with money. Collect business cards bearing nervously scribbled estimates and manly handshakes.
Decided on a nice Denon receiver (that’s amp to you and me). Tomorrow is speaker-listening, beard-stroking and deal-making.
Big achievement for this evening was packing book collection onto shelves, roughly according to category. A good showing by Religion & Occult and Counterculture, but ultimately trounced by Graphic Novels, Great Novels and *gasp* Science Fiction.

My friend Lyall has a similar one. Oh, spending money on pretty things is delightful. I want a Quicktime VR when you’re done! Things doing ok at this end. In foot down arse out mode. Still have a heuoge amount to do, but what i’ve done i’m pleased with. Still can’t feel half of my tongue after dentists, which i’m quite alarmed by but hey, i’m flying off on tangents. Again.
What speakers are you considering? I think the best I’ve ever heard were made by a company called Linn? I think. they had these little spikes which they sat on to cut down vibration and i’ve never heard anything like the sound quality. Filthy. Do seinheiser make upright speakers? If they did, i’d bet they’d be insane. Ohh, gadgets, gadgets. I finally got my earphones, btw. After customs made me pay an extra £40. Worth every penny.

Went for a set of rosewood Monitor Audio Radius after much recommendation and a couple of listening sessions.
As I understand it the Linn boys are around 5 figures which is plainly daft (with them not being made of platinum as one would expect).

Linn > Dannii’s dad has one. It always struck me that they were the antethesis of B&O, in that the bulk of their budget goes on tech R&D as opposed to design. Am as much of a gadget pervert as anyone else, but if it sounds lush and looks like you bought it from del boy, then it’s going in a cupboard. And the schematic logo hurts me too.

Ah, turns out the Linns aren’t All That after all, just a decent topend kit.
I can’t tell you how much I hates B&O by the way. Clunkiest 80s-era clockwork I’ve ever seen.

DIY comment spam for nostalgia’s sake, I love it.

hates B&O > Hmmm. Kind of know what you mean. Stereo wise, especially. Didn’t Jen M have one, or was it a knock off? Anyway, they cant seem to strike a balance between classy and dated. Their TV’s for example are lush. Graham Norton’s phallic phone couldn’t get any more phillipe starck if it possibly tried. It’s when they ditch the organic thing in favour of angles that I begin to wince.
Rosy! *points*
