Spain’s new prime minister: “The war in Iraq was a disaster, the occupation of Iraq is a disaster”. Troop withdrawal to ensue, terrorists win.

So, it looks like there’s a strategy for terrorism with proven results:
1. Time explosives for near a decision making time (elections)
2. Choose a place with unstable policies regarding Iraq (Europe, most of.)
3. Big bomb
4. Reap rewards, (including justification for further action.)
5. Point recruits at success to show their sacrifice is not in vain
6. GOTO 1
discuss.

Noticed that, absolute top score for the terrorists. They must be partying like it’s 2001.
Extra reason for bombing spain = very vocal public doubt about the war (more so than UK obviously). And those volatile paella-fuelled temperaments.

So, Italy next then….

.. as put perfectly in the guardian this morning, ‘The wind is blowing in our direction’. Terrifying. And no amount of pithy talk about ‘mourning without fear’ is going to change what’s looking really rather inevitable.
The same article came to the conclusion that if we had a multinational anti-terrorist taskforce, it would still be operating at a fraction of the budget that the US was, before 9/11. Clearly though, money doesn’t even enter into the equation.

And, to complete the picture.
Should be an interesting one to follow, wonder if he’ll have pictures of the dead, as was so acceptable during the “war”.
