sunday shoddy sunday

Sunday at work, the excitement. Couple of films to mention while I’m here.
Was caught unawares last night by Wes Anderson’s fantastic Rushmore (cheers Sian!). It’s unashamedly quirky, is extremely polished for a second film and features a swearing Scotsman. Spare no effort to see it, especially if you’re a Bill Murray fan like the rest of the world.

Slightly less enthusiastic praise for Catch-22 though. The first 30 minutes brings home immediately the impossibility of rendering the book fully. What you get is a disjointed collection of scenes – some executed brilliantly, mind you – with no unifying narrative. Notably there is no music of any kind, minimising sentiment and maintaining a keen bleak edge. Kind of like Catch-22: The Edited Highlights on the whole.
