My rock n roll career begins here…
BACKGROUND:
Three guys, Keiron (Evol), Ryan and Nathan (brothers from NZ) wanted to get a band together to perform some stuff that Ryan and Nathan had been working on. Ryan and Keiron would provide the guitar noise while Nathan would hit drums with two sticks… this left one position to fill:
The Bass Player
Originally they wanted Leonora from Major Major to play with them – this seemed bizarre as relations between some of the band members and Leonora had been ‘strained’ for some time. Anyway, without getting into messy details she wasn’t up for it so in a bizarre twist of fate I drunkenly volunteered myself at about 2am in Evol last Friday. I thought, ‘Fuck it, I’ll do them a favour and provide them with a bass player – I’m not a bass player and I’d rather be playing guitar but I’m in no position to choose as I don’t even have my own band.’
Phonecalls were made and a rehearsal was set up for Tuesday night. Kudos have to go to a Mr Aaron Bell for providing me with my instrument, the lovely “Mr Rusty”. It played like a dream dude, cheers for that…
THE REHEARSAL:
Last night’s get-together went really well. I managed to find the rehearsal room, which was on Jane St just off Leith Walk. It was a struggle to get there for 6pm seeing as I finish work at 5pm but I made it, thanks to the great taxi service we have here in Edinburgh.
Upon arrival Keiron enquired as to whether I had any earplugs because, in his words, ‘You’ll need them…’ I didn’t – and neither did he – so we got some of Ryan’s cigarettes and broke them so we could use the ends as makeshift earplugs. I ditched mine after about 5 minutes but Keiron kept his in, which meant while we played I couldn’t look at him for fear of dying of laughter. It was that funny.
Anyway, the rehearsal went really well and we ploughed our way through about 4 songs, most of which we can play pretty well. More practice is needed obviously but the basic song structures have been nailed. Playing bass is actually pretty good fun and everyone was impressed at how much better the songs sounded with a pounding bass line.
After the rehearsal I was officially asked if I wanted to join the band and I accepted. Practice sessions will occur 3 times a week (Mon, Wed, Sun) so everyone is committed…

Wow. How cool are you? give it a year, and it’ll be all champagne, cocaine and prostitutes.
No change there then.
