Our disco made a point about the Bush administration not looking to the future. More than that, it seems to me they are operating in some kind of Paranoid ChronoBubble™ where decisions of more moderate presidents are reversed and future consequences are ignored.
An earlier post mentioned the ICC. I found this wee gem that perfectly illustrates the delusional arrogance of the prevailing US position, even though it’s intended as an anti-ICC article: Bush Must ‘Unsign’ the ICC Treaty Now. Quote: “So, why would [an ICC] be so popular with 66 nations of the world? Most of these nations have never tasted the exhilaration of the freedoms and independence that Americans have. This may be the inbred attitude in particular of the EU (Britain, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, etc.) nations that have never experienced American-style freedoms and prosperity. Maybe they secretly want to stick it to us”
If you recall, this year Capt. Evans got his way. George Bush became the first president ever to reverse a decision of his predecessor, and the first head of state in world history to ‘unsign’ an international treaty. Irresponsible? You bet.
The Australian coverage of the invasion is pretty good. Here’s some insight into the differences between British and US tactics in dealing with tricky civilian situations.
And you have read the confirmation that Bush just wanted to whack Iraq immediately after 9/11, right?
Enough Bush-hating though: the chaps behind the UK tech-geek newsletter NTK have long since found another great use for Google: Puerile Google Misspellings. If you’re a typo-phobic like me you’ll enjoy reading these informative pages:
- find out about this year’s pubic holidays (perhaps you could take a trip on pubic transport)
- the use of controversial slash and bum tactics
- they may be devout, but they’re still shite muslims;
- or perhaps you’d like to place a bid on a really old bowel.
